Master Scott Craigue

Headmaster

Master Scott Craigue is the founder, owner and Headmaster of Kempo Academy of Martial Arts. Master Craigue has been practicing martial arts since 1979. Through his years of extensive study and training he has achieved a rank of 8th Degree Master Level Black Belt in Chinese Kempo. The diversity of his martial arts skills are evidenced by his 3rd Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo and Black Sash in Chinese Kung Fu. Among Master Craigue’s tournament accomplishments are several national sparring championships and several national weapons championships.

Master Douglas DeBarger

Chief Instructor, Westport

Master Douglas DeBarger is the owner, manager and chief instructor at our Westport location. Master DeBarger has studied under the guidance of Master Scott Craigue since 2000, and has Graduated from the Instructors College for Teaching of the Martial Arts (ICMA). Master DeBarger has also served as an assistant instructor at the KAMA schools in Ridgefield and Norwalk CT. His current national rankings include 5th Degree Master Black Belt in Chinese Kempo, Certified Kickboxing Instructor, and he is currently working toward his Black Sash in Tam Tui Wah Lum Kung Fu.

Sensei Michael Nahan

Chief Instructor, Darien

Sensei Michael Nahan is the owner, manager and chief instructor at our Darien location. He has been practicing martial arts since 1996, and has been under the guidance of Master Scott Craigue since 2002. Sensei Nahan has graduated from the Instructors College for Teaching of the Martial Arts (ICMA), and has also earned two bachelors degrees from Tulane University in New Orleans. His current national rankings include 4th Degree Black Belt in Chinese Kempo, Certified Kickboxing Instructor, and a Blue Sash in Tam Tui Wah Lum Kung Fu.

Sensei Thomas Wulffleff

Chief Instructor, Harrison NY

Sensei Thomas Wulffleff has been studying martial arts at Kempo Academy since 2003 and was the founder of our Fairfield location. He was one of the first students to receive a Black Sash in Tam Tui Wah Lum Kung Fu under Master Craigue‘s instruction. He has graduated from the Instructors College for Teaching of the Martial Arts (ICMA), is a Certified Kickboxing Instructor, and has also earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Connecticut. Sensei Wulffleff has also worked as an assistant instructor at the Westport KAMA location. Along with his Black Sash rank in Kung Fu, his current national ranking includes a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Chinese Kempo.

Sensei Anthony Smetak

Chief Instructor, New Canaan

Sensei Anthony Smetak is the owner, manager and chief instructor of Kempo Academy, New Canaan. Earning an MBA in Finance and working in the financial sector for over a decade, he now studies under the guidance of Master Craigue and Master DeBarger. Sensei Smetak has graduated from the Instructors College for Teaching of the Martial Arts (ICMA); additionally, he has served as the chief instructor at the Ridgefield satellite location as well as an assistant instructor at the Westport studio. His martial arts background includes experience with Okinawan Karate; moreover, he has completed a training regimen in Thailand with professional Muay Thai boxers. Sensei Smetak is nationally ranked at 2nd Degree Black Belt in Chinese Kempo.

Sensei Jonathan Simon

Chief Instructor, Greenwich

Sensei Jonathan Simon is the owner, manager and chief instructor at the Greenwich Kempo Academy of Martial Arts. He is actively studying under the guidance of Master Scott Craigue, Master Douglas DeBarger, and Sensei Michael Nahan and has graduated from the Instructors College for Teaching of the Martial Arts (ICMA). Sensei Simon worked as an assistant instructor in the Westport studio location for almost two years, and spent a year as the chief instructor for the Ridgefield satellite location. Sensei Simon is a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, where he earned both a Bachelor of Arts (2010) and a Master of Arts (2011), both in philosophy. Sensei Simon is nationally ranked at 2nd Degree Black Belt in Chinese Kempo, and is also currently working towards a Black Sash in Tam Tui Wah Lum Kung Fu.

Sensei Patricia Jackson

Chief Instructor, Norwalk

Sensei Patricia Jackson is the operator and chief instructor at the Norwalk satellite location. Patricia graduated from LaGuardia Community College with an AS in System Information Technology and continued her studies at Fairfield University, earning a degree in Computer Engineering and Technology. After working in the technology sector for over 14 years, Patricia decided to join the Kempo Academy team. She is currently enrolled in the Instructors College for Teaching of the Martial Arts (ICMA), and is studying under the guidance of Master Scott Craigue and Master Douglas DeBarger. Trish Jackson has worked as an assistant instructor at both the Wilton and Darien studio locations and is currently nationally ranked at 2nd Degree Black Belt in Chinese Kempo.

Sensei Kenneth Deegan

Chief Instructor, Wilton

Sensei Deegan is the Chief Instructor at the Wilton studio location. He is studying under the guidance of Master Scott Craigue, Master Douglas DeBarger, and Sensei Michael Nahan, and is currently enrolled in the Instructors College for Teaching of the Martial Arts (ICMA). Sensei Deegan has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from the University of Connecticut. He has also contributed as an assistant instructor at the Darien location and is currently nationally ranked at 1st Degree Black Belt in Chinese Kempo.

Sensei George Wolff

Chief Instructor, Ridgefield

Sensei George Wolff is the chief instructor at Ridgefield Parks & Rec satellite location. He is currently enrolled in the Instructors College for the teaching of Martial Arts (ICMA). Sensei Wolff has been studying Martial Arts since 2004 and has been under the guidance of Master Scott Craigue, Master Douglas DeBarger, and Sensei Michael Nahan since 2013. He is nationally ranked as a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, at 1st Degree Black Belt in Chinese Kempo. and his currently working towards his Black Sash in Tam Tui Wah Lum Kung Fu.

Sensei Morgan Ewing

Chief Instructor, Fairfield

Sensei Morgan Ewing is the owner, manager and chief instructor at the Fairfield Kempo Academy. His study of martial arts continues under the guidance of Master Scott Craigue, Master Douglas DeBarger and Sensei Michael Nahan. Sensei Ewing is a graduate of the Instructors College of the Martial Arts (ICMA) and he received his Bachelor’s degree in history from the State University of New York. In addition to perusing Martial Arts Sensei Ewing practices Yoga and Dance and has a life long passion for outdoor sports. He has attempted first ascents in the Chilean Andes, climbed extensively in the Wind River and Cascade ranges and lead teenagers on summer long canoe expeditions in the Canadian arctic. Sensei Ewing is currently nationally ranked at 1st Degree Black Belt in Chinese Kempo. His three children are also enrolled as students at the Kempo Academy of Martial Arts and he hopes one of them will someday succeed him.

Sensei Stephanie Aldworth

Assistant Instructor, Greenwich

Sensei Stephanie Aldworth is the Assistant Instructor at the Greenwich location. Sensei Aldworth earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education at Lesley University in 2002 and enjoyed a 15 year career as a Special Education teacher in Boston, MA and Greenwich, CT before becoming a full time karate instructor. She is currently enrolled in the Instructors College for Teaching of the Martial Arts (ICMA) and is studying to earn her black belt under the guidance of Master DeBarger, Master Craigue, Sensei Nanan and Sensei Simon. Sensei Aldworth shares her passion for karate with her son, who is one of her students in Greenwich.

Sensei Shannon Davis

Assistant Instructor, Westport

Sensei Shannon Davis is a full-time university student attending the University of Rhode Island. She began studying karate at the age of 5 at the Illinois Shotokan Karate Club and is now a 3rd Kyu Brown Belt. She actively competed at the state level and won medals for sparring, kata and basics. She is currently working towards her 1st Degree Black Belt in Chinese Kempo, and primarily teaches Kempo and summer camps at the Westport dojo.
